Bay Area Vocal Academy (BAVA) was a highly successful vocal music education program, founded by Rhoslyn Jones and Justin Montigne to provide comprehensive vocal training for talented young singers, preparing them for college and a career in classical music.

Through its summer workshops, yearlong training program, and all its performances, BAVA reached nearly one hundred exceptional high school and advanced middle school aged singers interested in studying and eventually making a career in classical vocal music. BAVA partnered with numerous world class solo artists and Bay Area arts organizations to offer professional performance experience and mentorships in all areas of the singing field. BAVA focused on opera, oratorio, art song, contemporary and chamber music, and some musical theater. BAVA artists received vocal coaching, collaborative piano coaching, audition preparation, stagecraft, language/diction instruction, business skills training, and individual advising and mentorship throughout their college search and early career development. BAVA artists have gone on to all of the top conservatories and universities in the country and are beginning promising careers as world class vocalists.

Middle schoolers aged 9-13 participated in the Youth Vocal Mentorship Program (YVMP), which provided vocal mentoring for middle school students across the Bay Area. YVMP’s mission was to empower and inspire young students in vocal music by providing weekly voice lessons and music theories classes. Its goal was to improve students’ vocal health and technique, confidence in their singing, and music theory knowledge through weekly voice lessons and group classes. Each student was paired with a talented high school mentor who was primarily responsible for their vocal and musical development. Mentors received hands on teaching experience under the guidance of the YVMP and BAVA directors.
